Reception children starting September 2022
Welcome to Warren Park Reception Classes
We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Warren Park Primary School as part of our new reception class!
Firstly, let us introduce ourselves as we are the team who will be responsible for shaping your child’s transition into our school and we are very much looking forward to getting to know you over the coming months. We are:
Mrs Elizabeth Cooper, Headteacher;
Mrs Lynne Lofting, Deputy Headteacher and SENCo;
Mrs Angie Pilgrim, Year Leader for Year R.
We work very closely together to make sure that you and your child are well prepared to join our Warren Park family. We are really looking forward to welcoming you into our school.
Some of you will already be familiar with ‘Tapestry’ which is an easy to use, secure online learning journal which allows parents and staff to communicate together and build a very special record of your child’s journey through Reception. We will set up Tapestry during over the next couple of months for our new Reception children and this will enable teachers to share information and be able to post videos which will help your child make the connection with their new school.
At Warren Park we offer 4 transition sessions for you and your child to come and find out more about life in Reception, plus have a chance to play in what will be your child’s new classrooms. Each session will cover different aspects of school life and be a chance for you to share anything you wish with the teachers in preparation for September. As each session is different we do hope you can make them all.
Session 1 – Monday 20th June – In this session we will introduce you to the Reception team. You will have an opportunity to go down to the classrooms with your child and play alongside other children who will be starting school in September.
Session 2 – Tuesday 28th June – Children will hopefully want to come and play in the classroom with the Reception Team. Mrs Pilgrim will stay in the hall with parents. You will learn about your child’s school day, the curriculum and expectations for the end of year, examples of learning opportunities your child will be experiencing and tips for helping your child develop readiness for school.
Session 3 – Monday 4th July – We will talk about Breakfast club, Kids club and Outdoor classroom. You will have a chance to sample our school dinners and you will be shown the classroom doors.
There will be two sessions available: you can choose either; 3.30-4.30 Or 5.00-6.00
Session 4 – Thursday 8th September – We will introduce you to our Speech and Language support, school nurses will be available if you have any concerns. Mrs Pilgrim will talk about the importance of reading and how you can help your child at home. This session is at 2.00-3.00
We will be encouraging the children to come down to Reception independently with help from the teachers, from the second week. This will give you all a chance to find out more about our school and help the children start to feel confident in their new setting.
We will be starting our home visits on Monday 5th September. These home visits are very important because it enables us to interact with the child in their home environment. These visits will finish on the 9th September. We will be in touch with a date and time when two teachers will be visiting you and your child.
Children will start full time (if ready) on Monday 12th September from 8.45 – 3.05
