Key stage 2 have been using their p4c skills, (philosophy 4 children) to explore harmful substances including smoking and alcohol. They had the opportunity to share thoughts, facts and concerns. P4c allows the children to speak freely and openly as well as giving them time to listen to other opinions and maybe see things in a different perspective. Years 5&6 discussed alcohol, years 3&4 smoking, these are known as the stimuli for p4c.
Using a thought cloud they came up individually with one word that, for them, summed up their given stimuli. From these words the children then constructed a question which would open up a chance for discussion. Once they had voted for a question that question was then used for discussion.
The objective is to show how to make informed choices about health and wellbeing and recognise sources to help with this. To be aware and able to identify different influences on their wellbeing and health while maintaining themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.
