As part of the Governments RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum the COSMIC team, over the next half term, will be learning about changes – focusing on looking at ourselves, changes and growing up.
In key stage 1 we will be looking at how we have changed since we were babies, the similarities and differences between boys and girls and challenging stereotyping of toys that boys and girls play with. This will include discussing and correctly naming all the different body parts including genitalia. We will discuss social relationships like families, friends and safe adults.
In Y3 and Y4 we will be looking at the human life cycle and how our needs change. We will include looking at own bodies and how they change. This will include discussing and correctly naming all the different body parts including genitalia. We will discuss social relationships like families, friends and safe adults.
For Y5 and Y6 we will be looking at the changes that will occur when they go through puberty. We will look at human reproduction and conception. We will revisit the work we have done on social media and privacy – in keeping with changes made to the RSE curriculum, we will include FGM and up skirting. Children will also have the opportunity to discuss relationships and personal identifies.
Children will be taught one session at the beginning of the half term and one in the middle. Children may want to speak about these sessions, we do encourage children to talk to their families. If you would like any further information or have any queries please feel free to come and speak to the COSMIC team.
