Reflecting on Ancient Traditional Crafts and using the material the children had previously dyed, the next step was to develop their design techniques.
First they used a disc with punched holes in to practice the running stitch using a piece of thread. When they were confident they had the technique they chose a pre-cut felt leaf to sew onto their sheet of previously dyed material. Miss Tester demonstrated the best way to sew the leaf on. The needles were already threaded for them but if they pulled the thread out it was their responsibility to try and rethread it. The target for this activity was to show they could use the equipment safely while treating it all with respect.
Did you learn how to thread a needle?
Is sewing an activity you may try again?
What advice would you give someone who is learning to sew?
