Science Longitudinal Study - Year 1 Autumn
Year 1 – Spotting the Seasons
Guiding Question: What signs of each season can we spot in our outdoor classroom?
In Year 1, children become seasonal spotters! They will notice how nature changes across autumn, winter, spring, and summer—taking photos from the same spot, recording weather and temperature, and keeping tally charts of birds, insects, and leaves. Using all their senses, children will compare the sights, sounds, and smells of each season. By the end of the year, they will understand how to identify and describe the key signs of seasonal change.
This Autumn we have been:
- Collecting observations of the changes in plants that we have seen.
In AUTUMN, children observed:
- The leaves are starting to fall off, but the tree canopy is green.
- There are lots of apples, pine cones and acorns on the forest floor.
- It feels warm in the sunshine but cool in the shade of the trees.
