Science Longitudinal Study – Year 2 Autumn
Guiding Question: What clues can we find to discover which animals live here?
Year 2 pupils become animal detectives, learning how to spot the hidden signs of wildlife in our grounds. From footprints and feathers to nests and burrows, they will use tracking tools and logs to gather evidence of animals that are hard to see. They may even build bug hotels or feeders to encourage more visitors! By the end of the year, they will be able to explain which animals live near us and how we know they are there.
This Autumn we have been:
- Collecting observations of signs of animals eating food found in the outside environment.
In AUTUMN, children observed:
- Animals and humans share some food sources – apples, nettles, rosehips and blackberries.
- Some apples had holes in them where insects have been eating them.
- We found lots of hazel trees but could not find any nuts. We think the squirrels have eaten them.
