Science Longitudinal Study - Year 6 Autumn
Guiding Question: How do we grow across the year—and what affects our growth?
In Year 6, pupils will focus on growth—both their own and that of plants and animals. They will measure their height, arm span, or foot length across the year and keep “growth diaries” to track how food, sleep, exercise, and sunlight affect development. They will compare their results with the growth of other living things. By the end of the year, they will understand that growth is influenced by many factors and be able to link scientific ideas to their own health and wellbeing.
In AUTUMN, children observed and learnt:
- The children know that they have changed from the start of school, Year R.
- They have made predictions about how tall they will be at the end of Year 6.
- They have accurately measured their height, shoe size and arm length.
- The children measured their heart rates before doing some tasks outside. They also considered how they felt in their bodies; tired, stressed, excited? The children noted that both their heart rate and how they felt physically altered after being outside, working on some physical tasks.
- The children discussed how we can check pulses and heart rate.
