Design Technology – Frame Structures Year 5 and 6

Our oldest pupils have been testing materials and structures. Indoors, they built frame structures using rulers and blu tack, then tested their strength by adding weight incrementally. Outdoors, they explored biodegradable materials, predicting which would break down over time. They also examined innovative packaging technologies, including natural alternatives like fish skins and mushrooms—some even found birch polypore and St. Alfred’s cakes in the school grounds! Additionally, the children considered how they might improve the vegetable beds using frame structures to support growth and sustainability.
