Items to bring into school:

As we have very limited storage space.  Please only allow your child to bring in:

  • A named water bottle (needed daily). Please no Stanley type cups or bottles of this size.
  • Reading Record Book
  • Packed lunch box / bag (if they have packed lunch)
  • A warm coat (if it is cold)
  • A small bag or a book bag. Please, no big rucksacks as we just don’t have the room.

We kindly ask that you label all clothing such as jumpers, cardigans, shoes & coats so that they can be returned to your child quickly.

Wednesday afternoon

Thursday afternoon

For P.E. we ask that children wear:

  • Usual school white polo shirt or tshirt and sweatshirt/fleece
  • Shorts, joggers, leggings or tracksuit bottoms (black, grey or blue)
  • Trainers or plimsoles not school shoes

We would ask that children do not wear football kits, or any clothing with motifs or labels.

Jewellery Reminder on P.E. days:

For health and safety reasons, earrings should not be worn on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, please ensure they are covered with surgical tape. Only small stud earrings are permitted in school at any time—hoops, sleepers, or dangly earrings are not allowed.

Reading:

Reading is an absolute top priority for us in Year 1; it’s the key that opens the doorway to the whole curriculum.

We kindly ask that you support us in school by hearing your child read at home as often as possible. Our school home reading policy encourages all children to read with an adult at home at least three times a week. Just reading a few pages and discussing what they have read makes a huge difference to their understanding and confidence towards reading

We ask that your child brings their reading record in everyday. We will check and celebrate their weekly reads, with rewards and recognition for their efforts. A gentle reminder that lost books or reading records may incur a replacement charge. By working together, we can make sure your child becomes a confident, lifelong reader.

Staying in touch:

We are looking forward to working together over the coming year to achieve the best for your child. While we can always do our best to answer quick questions at drop-off and pick-up, there may be times when we are unable to chat in detail. If you ever need to speak with us, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the team via the school office. We are always happy to help in any way we can.

Thank you,

The Year 1 Team
